What is ART?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy combines the proven power of eye movements with established therapeutic frameworks (Gestalt, psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and guided imagery) to produce rapid, lasting relief from trauma and a wide range of mental health challenges. Developed in 2008 by Laney Rosenzweig, LMFT, ART is recognized as evidence-based by the Society of Clinical Psychology (APA Division 12).
How It Works
The therapist guides the client to bring a distressing memory or image to mind, then uses sets of lateral eye movements to help the brain process and release the emotional charge attached to it. The client then replaces the negative images with positive ones of their own choosing - a process called Voluntary Memory/Image Replacement. The facts of the experience remain, but the painful emotional response does not.
No verbal recounting of trauma required
Client controls the pace and content at all times
Eye movements help integrate left and right brain activity
Not hypnosis - clients remain fully present and aware
No homework between sessions
Conditions ART Treats
ART has been shown to produce significant results across a broad range of conditions:
Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD)
Anxiety and phobias
Depression
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Grief and loss
Nightmares and sleep disturbances
Performance anxiety
Relationship difficulties
What to Expect
Sessions are 60–75 minutes. Treatment typically spans 1 to 5 sessions over about two weeks — far fewer than most conventional therapies. Many clients experience meaningful relief after a single session. ART can also be used alongside other treatments, including medication, making it a flexible addition to any care plan.
